{"id":259,"date":"2009-03-19T14:57:59","date_gmt":"2009-03-19T19:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johncbogle.com\/wordpress\/?p=259"},"modified":"2009-03-19T15:01:42","modified_gmt":"2009-03-19T20:01:42","slug":"john-bogles-message-to-vanguard-crew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johncbogle.com\/wordpress\/2009\/03\/19\/john-bogles-message-to-vanguard-crew\/","title":{"rendered":"John Bogle&#8217;s Message to Vanguard Crew"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>February 26, 2009<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0To: PRINCIPALS AND VETERANS:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I&#8217;m pleased to attach the<a href=\"https:\/\/johncbogle.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/statement2009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> testimony that I gave at the House of Representatives<\/a> on Wednesday on &#8220;Strengthening Worker Retirement Security,&#8221; before the Committee on Education and Labor.<\/p>\n<p>Also attached are:<\/p>\n<p>1. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/business\/39628302.html\" target=\"_blank\">A recent article from <em>The Philadelphia Inquirer<\/em><\/a>, reporting on my speech entitled &#8220;Fixing our Broken Financial System,&#8221; given to a large audience invited by Stradley, Ronon, Stevens and Young.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Enough-True-Measures-Money-Business\/product-reviews\/0470398515\/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&amp;showViewpoints=1\" target=\"_blank\">wonderful recent reviews by readers of ENOUGH<\/a>. on Amazon.com. As you&#8217;ll see, almost all of the 29 readers who reviewed the book awarded it a 5-star rating.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>3. A bit embarrassingly, two pleasing personal achievements, which I think many of you would like to know about. First, my article &#8220;Black Monday and Black Swans&#8221; was named in the <em>Financial Analysts Journal<\/em> as the winner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfainstitute.org\/aboutus\/press\/release\/09releases\/20090309_01.html\">The Graham and Dodd Perspective Article Award of 2008<\/a>. \u00a0Ironically, in 1960, when the G &amp; D Awards were first introduced, my article &#8220;The Case for Mutual Fund Management&#8221; under the pen name John B. Armstrong (don&#8217;t ask) was awarded an Honorable Mention.\u00a0 Perhaps these two articles-49 years apart are the &#8220;book ends&#8221; of my writing life. \u00a0(But I hope not!)<\/p>\n<p>Second, my article &#8220;A Question So Important that it should be Hard to Think about Anything Else&#8221; was named <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iijournals.com\/JPM\/DEFAULT.ASP?Page=903\" target=\"_blank\">one of the three most outstanding articles of 2008<\/a> in <em>The Journal of Portfolio Management<\/em>. Another irony: this article had been rejected by the <em>Financial Analysts Journal<\/em> (for perfectly sensible reasons).
